Hi all
Planning on buying a GPS.
Getting tired of flying around my house.

Just wondering what one should i go for.
Some thing straight forward and not over the top, money wise.
Some thing that would fit nicely on an XL

Any one have one for sale
Advice much appreciated
Thanks

You could do far worse than a Garmin 295.

Compared to todays units it looks a little dated but if you buy a full kit it'll come with all the mounts and cables. Very easy to read in an open cockpit. I have one in my Flash and it works a treat. I have all the fields in Ireland loaded into the database and it's easy to navigate.

Should cost you no more than 200 sterling for a good one. I've had two (sold one with my last trike)

Great piece of kit.

look luck with the search

I have an Ipaq (remember them?) for about 10 years now as well and was using Winpilot all the time. Just discovered recently that XCSoar do a version that runs on the platform they use (whatever that is) and now use that. You could pick up a good ipaq for cheapish and a bluetooth GPS reciever and away you go!

xcSoar is free by the way!

I have Garmin eTrex in my XL, works great, just a simple arrow which points the way and it gives you your ground speed and ETA to your destination. I got mine on eBay for about 80. I also have an Aware GPS , but to be honest it's too much for the XL. So i now only use the eTrex. The eTrex works great. I also have my map on my lap with the route drawn out and interval markers plotted. You can still practice regular navigation as the eTrex is really just a simple GPS compass.
